Corian by DuPont
Corian by DuPont

I get to work with Corian quite a lot as a kitchen designer. I love it because it is such a versatile material that wears exceptionally well and always looks great.
It is much more than a countertop. Corian is also used for;
- sinks
- furniture
- bathroom products
- lighting
- art
DuPont created the solid surface category more than 30 years ago. It is an advanced blend of natural materials and pure acrylic polymer and is manufactured by DuPont in the form of sheets and sinks. The sheets are precut into specific lengths at the factories and then shipped to a worldwide network of distributors. Authorized Distributors and Retailers of Corian are trained professionals who help everyone who uses Corian meet all specification, fabrication and installation requirements.

I have put corian kitchen cupboard tops but in past 2 years they are marked with very slight scratches. The instaler said I could buff these out by applying !!!!!! and use a buff pad.
Can you tell me what I need to apply before buffing please.
Many thanks John Timms West Australia.
Hi John,
Try this
http://www2.dupont.com/Surfaces/en_US/products/corian/corian_care.html
What they dont tell you is that this product is a toxic mix of molten polymers (plastic) and bits of glass, shell, beads and bits of granite . It scratches ,it burns , and when burning is so toxic that firemen have to use breathing apparatus.
A simple test, take marker pen and make a mark on the “polished” side, leave for 5 seconds and attempt tp remove. Also you could ask your salesman to supply you with a sample, take a ciggi lighter and apply heat to the corner of the sample and watch as it turns brown and starts to burn and emit an evil smelling toxic smoke.
Then ask yourself if you really want this stuff in your kitchen?
get real Granite, its safe hygenic, absolutely non toxic, and is the most eco-friendly choice of all.
Yes, but granite countertops also emit Radon! :(
We are trying to find a cream coloured kitchen sink to blend in with our kitchen. It’s an old house and we don’t want a shiny metal looking sink, and we don’t want white. The old sink was one we had re-enamelled and it didn’t last well.
I contacted dupont and they won’t sell me a corian sink unless I buy benchtops too!
Any suggestions?
Elli,
Have you thought about one of the ceramic laboratory sinks that some are installing in laundrys? Not quite a traditional sink shape, but certainly large enough to be useful and comes in white and cream?
