French Provincial / English Country Look Kitchen
The owners of this Northern suburbs home realised the potential of their current kitchen, however were unsure how to turn their ideas into reality. Little flow for practicality and inadequate design meant the space was not being used effectively.
The space at the rear of the home to house the kitchen and dining area was approximately 9x6 metres. French doors introduced the elevated balcony that overlooked a very leafy back garden. The balcony was substantial and a great area for entertaining and barbecuing. It was therefore imperative the design allow for large party entertaining and catering and that the space be filled with the kitchen, large dining table only
The client favoured a French Provincial/English country look. To achieve this unique style the Designer used a butlers sink, a glass display area for special pieces, open shelves and a large free standing cooker. The round sink and provincial taps bring another dimension to the space as does the 80mm bush box bench top with French Provincial edging. The turned legs supporting the overhand added depth and character to the island as a centrepiece and overall style of the kitchen.
A second sink was placed in the island offering heightened ergonomics and catering possibilities. Well sized worked areas and a pot drawer and utensil system handy to the cooker reflect a convenient space as do the crockery and cutlery drawers, the broom closet, the large bin cabinet and the kids bag drawer. Specific space was designed for the coffee machine and spices/condiments. State of the art chrome roll outs were installed for easy access to difficult corner spaces.
Windows behind the butler’s sink were positioned to allow the bench top to flow to the balcony area thus maximising communication and bringing the outside in. The window size was changed on the back wall to centre the chimney and the large pantry area was designed to add a subtle feature and minimise bulk. A filing cabinet and seated phone area were integrated subtly so not to overshadow the unique style and design of the overall kitchen.
The client is delighted with the final outcome of design and finishes for their kitchen - it totally exceeded their expectations. The space delivers everything they dreamed of and produced a glamorous kitchen with a real wow factor.
