Kitchen Countertop / Benchtop Refacing

Refacing your kitchen countertop / benchtop is an economical way of giving your tired old kitchen a new lease of life.

The most simplest way to reface your countertop is by relaminating it. This can be done in situ as long as the backsplash / splashback tiles are removed. The countertop must not be water damaged or have signs of rotting as this will cause the new laminate to come away after a while. If there are any bubbles in the old laminate you should cut them out and fill the cutout area with an appropriate filler.

One then simply roughly sands the old laminate to provide a 'key' so that the contact adhesive has a good hold. Then apply the new laminate and trim away the excess.

Other companies now reface countertops with a manufactured or engineered stone. With this method, the company will come to your place and lay a 6 - 12mm slab on top of your existing countertop and cut it away with special tools. Once finished, it has the appearance and durability of granite or natural stone at roughly half the expense.
