Blum Hardware – AVENTOS HK-S for small overhead cabinets

Welcome the most recent member to Blum’s AVENTOS family of lift systems; AVENTOS HK-S. Available in Australia now, AVENTOS HK-S is well suited for small cabinets and is the perfect application for over the refrigerator or wall oven.

Product Manager, Wayne Chance commented, “AVENTOS HK-S is fantastic for scaled down lift systems that are specially designed for stay lift applications on smaller fronts. It’s perfectly suited to cabinets positioned at the top of larder units and over appliances like wall ovens and microwaves. AVENTOS HK-S completes the existing AVENTOS system programme so now there is an application for all situations”.

The performance of the lift mechanism was specially designed for smaller stay lifts. AVENTOS HK-S is well suited for cabinet heights up to a maximum of 400mm. Due to its size AVENTOS HK-S fits harmoniously into smaller cabinets. In a direct comparison, this version is even more compact than AVENTOS HK. There is now a corresponding AVENTOS lift system for any installation situation. If the height of the room allows you can even use design elements such as cornice or crown moulding.

The variable stop ensures AVENTOS HK-S always remains in the desired position and because the doors open upward, they provide an excellent view into the cabinet interior. This enables comfortable and ergonomic access to the items stored.

AVENTOS HK-S offers a high degree of elegance when closing thanks to the intelligent technology of BLUMOTION. The adaptive system guarantees that fronts always close silently regardless of the size, weight or closing speed. The AVENTOS HK-S fitting is delivered with a closed lever, thus no protruding parts, providing the best possible safety during internal transport. The front of the wall cabinet can be removed tool-free for quick and easy cabinet assembly onsite. This is due to Blum’s proven CLIP technology.

Blum will grace the halls of The Sydney Exhibition Centre with an innovative display filled with the latest functional kitchen hardware technology at designEX on the 22nd – 24th April, 2010.

It will be Blum’s fourth consecutive year exhibiting at the prestigious design and architecture event with Blum National Sales and Marketing Manager, David Noakes commenting, “The exhibition provides the perfect platform for us to showcase both current and future products and reach a very important market segment for our business, the Interior Designers and Architects of Australia”.

Blum will be providing a sneak preview of their much anticipated new look TANDEMBOX intivo which offers new versatile design and differentiation opportunities for pull-outs. TANDEMBOX intivo creates a timelessly simple and uniform appearance when used in combination with BOXCAP, a matched add-on element for the drawer side. Alternatively, creative accents can be achieved by using BOXCOVER, in combination with almost any material.

Blum is an industry leader in kitchen cabinet hardware although; their products can be applied to other areas in the home. “Whilst we are heavily focussed on kitchens, we recognise the importance of other living spaces so we will highlight how Blum can be used right across the domestic or commercial fit out with feature displays including home entertainment and bathrooms to name just two”, says David Noakes.

Blum launches SERVO-DRIVE - Sydney, Australia – July 2008

1 July 2008 - Blum invited over 500 guests to witness the official launch of SERVO-DRIVE, the electric drive that opens drawers and pull-outs.
The event was held at the picturesque Doltone House-Pyrmont,Sydney. During the evening customers, guests, industry associations and media were given an invaluable insight to the BLUM FORMULA, Research and Development = Perfecting Motion.

During the evening we presented to our customers information on the kitchen observations we do around the world, including Australia. The objective of the kitchen observation is to place ourselves in the consumer’s home and study how they use the kitchen and surrounding area. This provides us valuable insight to the end user of our product, the consumer. With this research we continue to develop and refine our products, and it supports us as we continually strive to implement our Global Customer Benefits philosophy. That is, that anyone that uses Blum product be it manufacturer, installer, retailer or consumer will enjoy a positive experience when using Blum product.

Also shown on the night were two concept products, intivo TANDEMBOX drawer system and AVENTOS lift system featuring SERVO-DRIVE. This part of the demonstration reinforced Blum’s ongoing product development and focus on, Perfecting Motion.

Our presentation concluded with a live demonstration of our research tool, the AGE EXPLORER suit. The AGE EXPLORER is a simulation suit for movement restrictions. It has been developed by the Meyer-Hentschel Institute (Germany) together with doctors and geriatric researchers.

Once again our focus here is to support the end consumer when making such a serious investment in their home, a new kitchen. Once you have decided on a kitchen, it is very difficult to change it later on. The requirements of kitchen users can change over 20 years of kitchen use. The reasons for this are that the body ages, moving becomes more difficult. Accidents can happen, back or knee problems or illnesses such as arthritis can occur. A pregnancy or having a child on the arm while cooking or preparing can make the handling of kitchen more difficult …..

By providing a “ taste “ of 20 years from now to kitchen designers and consumers we can support the decision making process and highlight why drawers and pull-outs improve ergonomics and access, rather than a door where bending and lifting could increasingly become more difficult.

We then invited our guests to join us in the North Pier room of Jones Bay wharf for the official reveal of SERVO-DRIVE featuring our concept drawer systems intivo TANDEMBOX.

A lot of kitchen storage hardware and kitchen accessories are made of chrome plated steel. This is OK for some applications in the kitchen but when water or moisture is present it can really be a problem.

For instance, it is common to install pull out metal baskets to the interior space of kitchen sink cabinets for the purpose of storing cleaning products that can easily be retrieved. These metal baskets are usually made of chrome plated steel but more importantly the drawer slides are also made of the same material. After time water or moisture can rust the drawer slides rendering them useless.

Undermount drawer slides are mountable underneath the bottom of a drawer in a way that the drawer slide is largely unexposed to view when the drawer is opened.

Undermount drawer slides are considered to be far superior to all other drawer slide designs. Their action is far smoother and easier in its movement and they can be fitted with soft close hardware.

Blumotion soft close for Clip Top hinges can now be quickly integrated into cabinets with hinged doors thanks to some smart thinking by Blum engineers.

These are the new generation soft closing drawer slides from the European kitchen hardware manufacturer, Blum.

The perfect closing motion � silent and effortless � is created by combining smooth running action with the closing action.

These soft close devices are similiar to the Blumotion for Doors piston but it is a much more beefed up version!

Blumotion for doors – Soft close mechanisms for kitchen cabinets

Blumotion soft-close system for cabinet doors with self-closing hinges has an innovative design that senses how hard the cabinet door is being closed, then adjusts resistance to keep it from slamming shut. This perfect movement provides more comfort and convenience with its silent and effortless operation.

I have these in my kitchen and they work great. It is a much better sytem than rubber door bumpers or foam cushions (which fall off over time or get crushed beyond all use). The good thing about Blumotion for doors is the way they adapt to different closing forces.

Here's how they work.

Slow kitchen door closing force
The braking system expands slightly, generating only modest resistance to the flow. The BLUMOTION effect is controlled via the flow speed and in this case, remains low.

Fast kitchen door closing force
The braking system expands which constricts the flow channel to create greater resistance. This results in a strong BLUMOTION effect. Pretty clever idea, don't you think?

Kitchen door closing force that is too fast
The overload safely feature kicks in. The excessive force is diverted using an additional flow channel and both BLUMOTION and the hinge are protected from damage.
