Smart technology in the kitchen
Australians spend many hours each day on the internet using smartphones and other mobile devices. Wouldn’t it be great if you could charge your device whilst having breakfast, lunch or dinner at your kitchen counter or breakfast bar without any messy wires or chargers cluttering your benchtop?
Corian has come up with a unique solution to make your kitchen smarter by allowing you to wirelessly charge your phone or device by simply sitting it on your benchtop. The Corian Wireless Charging Surface is hidden from view on the underside of the benchtop. This circumvents the need to make unsightly penetrations into the benchtop surface and maintains the seamless and precise finish for which Corian surfaces are renowned.
It is enabled by a state-of-the-art induction technology. This delivers the charge directly through the Corian surface to your phone. Also, the benchtop surface is smart because charging stops when your phone has reached maximum battery charge.
How does it work?
Inductive coupling (wireless charging), uses narrow magnetic fields created by a (hidden) electrical coil. The receiving device (smartphone) also has a hidden coil (attached to the battery) that can receive the magnetic energy created, thereby transferring power wirelessly.
Will my phone be compatible?
Most newer phones on the market will work (Samsung, iPhone and Google Pixel). If you have an older phone that does not support wireless charging, you can use an adaptor ring (sold separately) that plugs into your phone charging port.
Have a look at the video below to see the Corian Wireless Charging Surface and the Corian Adaptor Ring in use.
How much does it cost?
The transmitter unit (concealed under the bench) costs $180 + GST. Price does not include installation.
If you have a phone that does not support wireless charging, you may be able to use an adaptor ring. Adaptor rings to suit older model smartphones cost $40 + GST each. Micro USB and Apple Lightning models are available.
