The Internet of Things is making possible a new advancement of smart kitchen appliances and gadgets making their way into our home. Once such advancement is the recent collaboration of Sonos and IKEA to design and build the SYMFONISK wireless speaker.
Sonos is widely known for the smart speakers it develops and manufactures. IKEA is widely known for its clever designs and functional, ready-to-assemble furniture. It is then hardly surprising that the Symfonisk wireless speaker is both smart and functional.
And no assembly is required! Well, not unless you affix the Symfonisk's speaker bracket to your wall.
The bookshelf speakers give amazing mono sound for their size. If you want an even more detailed soundstage, then get two identical speakers and set them up as a stereo pair. It does not have voice control (no built-in microphone) however you can control the speaker with an Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant device. And the price? A mere $99 thank you very much!
Apart from the obvious rooms that would benefit from wireless speakers such as the bedroom and living room, the kitchen can also benefit as well. Wouldn’t it be nice to have great sounding audio in the kitchen without taking up valuable counter space?
IS IT A KITCHEN SHELF THAT DOUBLES AS A WIFI SPEAKER OR A SPEAKER THAT DOUBLES AS A KITCHEN SHELF?
The Symfonisk speaker can sit vertically or horizontally and can be attached to a wall with an optional bracket (sold separately) to create a shelf. The shelf / speaker is strong enough to hold 3kg of weight (depending on the type of wall and fastening). There is a silicone rubber slip resistant mat inside the box that you can place on top of the unit to stop items slipping off the shelf speaker when the bass is pumping.
You can also suspend the Symfonisk speaker from a hook mount (also sold separately) which attaches to IKEA’s kitchen rack systems, the KUNGSFORS and FINTORP. This helps save your precious kitchen benchtop space. The hooks have a soft damping material that reduces rattling when hung on the rail.
