Standard Kitchen Drawer Dimensions

Kitchen drawer dimensions typically vary in width, height, and depth, depending on what will be stored inside. This customization offers great flexibility in both storage and functionality.

Standard Drawer Widths

When discussing drawer sizes, we often focus on the front panel rather than the internal dimensions, which only become visible when the drawer is opened.

Common drawer front widths include: 400mm, 450mm, 500mm, 600mm, 700mm, 800mm and 900mm.

Standard Drawer Depths

Drawer depth is determined by the internal dimensions of the base cabinet. A standard kitchen base cabinet has a depth of 560mm, with an internal depth of 544mm (if made with a 16mm thick back panel). Therefore, the maximum drawer depth is typically 500mm.

Common drawer depths include: 250mm, 300mm, 350mm, 400mm, 450mm, and 500mm, with these measurements influenced by the sizes of drawer runner lengths from different manufacturers.

Standard Drawer Heights

Common drawer front heights include: 141mm, 177mm, 238mm, 285mm and 357mm.

How Are Drawer Heights Determined?

There are plenty of combinations derived from this simple formula:

Standard kitchen cabinet height / number of drawers (then subtract  door / drawer gap from the result)

For example:

  • 2 equal drawer heights = 720/2 = 360 - 3 = 357mm high
  • 3 equal drawer heights = 720/3 = 240 - 3 = 237mm high
  • 4 equal drawer heights = 720/4 = 180 - 3 = 177mm high
  • 5 equal drawer heights = 720/5 = 144 - 3 = 141mm high

Underbench Oven Drawer Height

Underbench ovens can have a drawer above or below. Height of drawer can be determined by:

Standard kitchen cabinet height - Underbench oven height - door/drawer gap

For example:

  • 720mm - 597mm - 3 = 120mm high
